One of the stars of the Bug Zoo, Pinkie, the Salmon Pink Birdeater, molted this week!
Molting is the process by which arthropods shed their exoskeletons to grow larger, regrow body parts, and generally freshen up. Large, full-grown tarantulas like Pinkie will molt about once every 2 years. Young tarantulas can molt as often as once a month if conditions are right.
Come by the Bug Zoo to see (or even touch) some tarantula exoskeletons, see the new Pinkie, or bug our tour guides with your questions!
