Live Animals from Local and Ethical Breeders
At the Victoria Bug Zoo we strive to bring in excellent arthropod pets for both the new and the experienced arthropod pet owners. All of our animals comes from either Canadian breeders or ethical breeders around the world. We will try and keep our stock up to date for what we have available but if there is something you have your heart set on please email or give us a call so we can make sure it is in stock.
We ask that no matter your experience level you please research thoroughly the specific animal you are wanting to get, we care a lot about our animals and we want to make sure they go to the right homes.
At this time we are not carrying any ants, we know of some great people you can get fantastic colonies from as well as formicariums. Please check out https://canada-ant-colony.com
All of the animals we sell are legal to keep in Canada as pets but please check your local by-laws as those can supersede other allowances. Exotic insects like praying mantises (other than the Chinese Green), walking sticks, giant beetles and others that do not come from Canada are not legal to keep as pets or import into Canada without proper permits so please keep that in mind.
We are not able to ship our animals at this time, except for the Chinese Green mantis ootheca.
Arachnids
New World Tarantulas
Often more docile and better beginner friendly species, but of course watch out for the urticating hairs.
Old World Tarantulas
Old worlds are often very beautiful but can be abit more excitable and reactive so often better for experienced keepers.
True Spiders
We will on occasion have jumping spiders or velvet spiders for sale, these often go fast so always check for avaialability first.
Scorpions and other
We will often have Asian Forest scorpions or other interesting arachnids. Mostly Heterometrus though.
Isopods
Porcellio
Adorable flater isopods, many of which are quite hardy and colourful. These are also some of the largest terrestrial isopods.
Cubaris
Isopods who roll up into balls! Many different sizes, colours and complexity of care.
Springtails
I know, not technically an isopod but they fall better into this category than others. Great for cleaning up soil and preventing mold and waste buildup.
Other
Millipede
We only have the one species currently, the Giant American Millipede (Narceus americanus). A relatively simple and fun species to care for with decently long lives.
Stag Beetles
We carry a couple different stag beetle species from Canada. They are bred by a reputable breeder out East.
Other Beetles
Some of these others are only occasionally available and are quite fun and weird.
